About the research group
The Oncology Data Analytics Program (ODAP) was formed in 2019 answering the needs of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) and IDIBELL for a unique program covering the genomic cancer research, bioinformatics knowledge and resources to support the institute in oncological data handling, analysis and research. By applying state-of-the-art bioinformatic tools and analysis, the program reaches their main obejectives in cancer prevention and early detection of cancer. The program is divided in three subunits: Bioinformatics for Precision Oncology (B4PO), Oncology Outcomes and Biomarkers and Susceptibility Unit (UBS). About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist with a PhD in Biomedical Sciences. The successful applicant will work under a project funded by the Fundación Cientifica Asociación Española Contra el Cancer (AECC) and in collaboration with a large, national consortium of biomedical research institutions and collaborators in 12 Spanish provinces.
The overall aim of the project is to analyse and complement the available epidemiological data on common cancers (colorectal, breast, stomach, prostate and chronic lymphocytic leukemia) with genetic and metabolomic information to study cancer mechanims, improve predictive models, identify causal risk factors, and potentially, find new diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers.
Management of studies with large numbers of samples and data
Knowledge in the fields of genetics, epigenetics, genomics and metabolomics biomarkers
Statistical analysis and epidemiological methodology
Education and training
PhD or equivalent training (3+ year experience) in a field related to Biomedical Sciences or Bioinformatics
Undergraduate and/or Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedicine or equivalent
Laboratory skills such as sample processing, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, sequencing. Mass spectrometry will be valued
Computing skills and statistical software, preferably in Linux and R
Analysis of genetic and metabolomics data
Other technical skills
Bioinformatics for the analysis of next-generation sequencing and visualization (IGV)
Analysis of metagenomics (16S and shotgun)
Analysis of GWAS (PLINK)
Fluent in Spanish and English. Catalan desirable.
Good command of the English language
