About the research group
The Oncology Data Analytics Program (ODAP) was formed in 2019 answering the needs of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) and IDIBELL for a unique program covering the genomic cancer research, bioinformatics knowledge and resources to support the institute in oncological data handling, analysis and research. By applying state-of-the-art bioinformatic tools and analysis, the program reaches their main obejectives in cancer prevention and early detection of cancer. The program is divided in three subunits: Bioinformatics for Precision Oncology (B4PO), Oncology Outcomes, and the Biomarkers and Susceptibility Unit (UBS). About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist with a PhD in Biomedical Sciences in the microbiome field. The successful applicant will work under a new project funded by La Marató TV3, a collaborative project between IDIBELL and IDIBGI .
The overall aim of the project is to investigate intra-tumor microbiota in pancreatic cancer patients in the context of an ongoing epidemiological study of cancer patient prognosis.
The project will analyze microbiota composition in recently collected tumor specimens using 16S tRNA gene sequencing to identify potential effects on tumor progression, treatment resistance, patient survival, as well as analsyis of potential interactions with host and tumor microenvironment immune response.
Acredited professional experience in the analysis of microbiome data (NGS, 16S, library preparation and functional studies)
Experience or knowledge of basic statistics is desired
Education and training
PhD in Biomedical Science discipline related to the study of the microbiome (ie. Computational analysis, laboratory analysis, etc)
Experience or knowledge in cancer and/or chronic disease research desired but not required
Programming languages for data science (R, python)
Linux environment, HPC
Analysis of NGS data and specific software for microbiome analyses
Experience in the lab analyzing microbiome (not required)
Good command of the English language,
Knowledge of Spanish and/or Catalan will be valued
